Shelter Director

Job overview: The Humane Society of Williamson County is seeking a Shelter Director that will successfully execute the mission that has been defined by HSWC's Board of Directors. We are looking for a proven leader with a strong track record of innovative ideas translated into action, an experienced manager, a strong communicator and a highly regarded professional. The Shelter Director reports directly to the Board of Directors. 

Required Experience:

  • BS/BA (or equivalent experience)
  • A minimum of eight years of professional work experience and minimum of three years of management experience
  • Business planning and financial management experience
  • Computer skills
  • Fundraising and public relations experience
  • Prior shelter management, animal protection or non-profit experience is strongly preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the well being and humane treatment of animals in our care
  • Successfully manage HSWC's 11+  employees and 300+ volunteers
  • Build and execute HSWC's annual fundraising plan with the assistance of the Board of Directors
  • Prepare HSWC's annual budget, monthly financial analysis, monthly statistics and periodic program analysis for Board of Directors
  • Act as a liaison with HSWC's Board of Directors, cooperative veterinarian, volunteers and other members of the community (rescue groups, other shelters, patrons, etc.)
  • Ensure all necessary shelter policies, procedures and job descriptions are in place and updated as needed
  • Ensure that all shelter assets are managed properly and that records are maintained as required by law and as required by good standard business practices
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of all shelter property
  • Act as Safety Manager and perform safety training for employees
  • Maintain highest Customer Service standards and deal effectively with customer concerns
  • Lead continuing education efforts regarding the latest animal sheltering issues and best business practices
  • Perform other duties to ensure a positive public image with internal and external customers and to improve the functioning of this organization as assigned by the Board of Directors

Other: Weekend and some evening operating hours required.  Valid driverʼs license required. Willingness to attend training programs to upgrade skill level in specific areas.

Salary:  Full time salaried position. Starting salary $40K - $50K with additional opportunities for performance bonuses and salary increases through shelter operational success. Benefits included.

Veterinary Technician

The Humane Society of Williamson County is seeking an experienced, full time veterinary technician. Position requires data entry, animal handling skills and some heavy lifting. HSWC is a fast paced, active no-kill animal shelter open six days a week. Position is responsible for cleaning of clinic, medical care of animals, assisting in our biweekly spay/neuter clinic, our monthly low cost vaccine clinic and the daily processing of animals accepted into the program. Prefer basic veterinary technician skills with some surgical experience, but will train right candidate. Some weekend work required. PTO and some benefits provided. We offer a rewarding experience, in a fun environment, with opportunities for continuing education and hands on training.


Customer Service / Adoption Counselor / Animal Care Technician

The Humane Society of Williamson County is seeking an individual interested in working in a full-time dual position of customer service/animal care technician.  Position requires animal care and cleaning duties in the a.m. and customer service/adoption counseling in the afternoon.  We are a fast paced, active no-kill animal shelter open six days a week.  Position is responsible for processing pet adoptions and intakes, answering telephones, completing paperwork, cleaning and caring for animals, primarily cats and animals being cared for in our clinic.  Data entry, customer service skills, animal handling skills required.  One to three years work experience required, preferably with public interface/customer service experience.  High school diploma required.  Weekend work required.  PTO and some benefits provided.  $7.50 - $9.00 commensurate with experience

Kennel Supervisor/Lead Position

 The Humane Society of Williamson County is seeking to fill a full-time kennel lead position.    We are a fast paced, active no-kill animal shelter open six days a week.  Position is responsible for leading the care, cleaning and feeding of shelter animals and general shelter maintenance.   This includes performing hands on cleaning duties, data entry of animal information, supply tracking and ordering, and general shelter maintenance along with supervising other kennel technicians.  This position also assists the public with adoption information and safe animal handling skills during open public hours.  Previous animal and/or kennel experience preferred.  Animal handling skills, customer service and data entry skills required.  One to three years work experience required, preferably with some lead/supervision experience.  High school diploma required.  Weekend work required.  PTO and some benefits provided.  $8.50 - $10.50 commensurate with experience.

Kennel Technician

The Humane Society of Williamson County is seeking part-time kennel technicians.  We are a fast paced, active no-kill animal shelter open six days a week.  Position is responsible for the care, cleaning and feeding of shelter animals and general shelter maintenance. Also assists the public with adoption information and safe animal handling skills during open hours.  One year work experience required.  Customer service skills required.  High school diploma required.  Weekend work required.  PTO provided.  $7.00 - $8.00 commensurate with experience.
